Peace Vigils

We think of A.J. Muste, who during the Vietnam War stood in front of the White House night after night with a candle. One rainy night, a reporter asked him, "Mr. Muste, do you really think you are going to change the policies of this country by standing out here alone at night with a candle?"

"Oh," Muste replied, "I don't do it to change the country. I do it so the country won't change me."

And I’d like to add that, “I do it because I want to leave this world for my grandchildren a little bit more better than when I found it.”

- UUCM members Tom Gale and Kathy Sands-Boehmer

We vigil every Tuesday from 6:30-7:15pm in front of the Marblehead High School entrance at the intersection of Humphrey and Pleasant Streets.

Why we vigil -

  • We believe that the US invasion of Iraq was unnessary, illegal and unjust;
  • We believe that non-violence through diplomacy and international law are the best means of settling international conflict and global differences;
  • We call for an end to the US occupation of Iraq and for an immediate withdrawal of military troops and replace them with an international police force to support the Iraqi police force;
  • We support the creation of a Department of Peace, with a cabinet level advocate and a Peace College;
  • We plead with our government to act responsibly in the world, to be a leader and peacebuilder.
Come join us some Wednesday!

The Salem Mission

For many years, our church has prepared and served an evening meal at the Salem Mission on two Thursdays each month. About twenty volunteers, including children and teens, have actualized the saying that many hands make light the work. This program usually serves about eighty people at a sitting. Click here to go to the Salem Mission website.

Marblehead Food Pantry

Members bring storable food items to the church on Sunday mornings for delivery to the Marblehead Food Pantry, a local organization which provides food for the needy.

New Orleans - Katrina Relief

Follow the journal entries of UUCM members who have travelled to New Orleans to help provide relief to victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Social Action Film Series

We offer to the public a series of documentaries designed to supplement the information we are given by our corporate media.
