Religious Exploration Programs

Sunday Seminar for Adults and Interested Teens

Any adult or teen is welcome to attend our Sunday Seminar which meets Sundays 9:00-10:15 am in the Nichols Library. We are respectful, funny, and enthusiastic learners. Those who attend decide on the topics and present them to the group. After the presentation everyone has an opportunity to reflect on it. The topics are quite varied and have included UU issues about economic justice, Radical Judaism, near-death experiences, the latest in particle physics, our different notions of God, and the collapse of the American empire. For upcoming topics see the Newsletter or call the church office at 781-631-1215.

Religious Exploration for Children and Youth- from the R.E. Director

Welcome to the Religious Exploration Program at Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead. Our caring and nurturing community is committed to guiding children and youth on a spiritual journey of religious truth, meaning and experience. One of the major goals of our Religious Exploration program is for our young people to learn and grow in ways that help them develop their own sense of faith, sense of purpose and respect for their own worth.

We offer Sunday morning faith development classes for children and youth from preschool through high school. We welcome children and youth in the sanctuary for the first part of the Sunday service before they move to their classrooms.

Children and youth learn as much from those who teach them as we do from what they are taught. Our classroom leaders create an atmosphere where participants are free to ask questions and talk about feelings and ideas.

Once a month we offer multigenerational services in the sanctuary where the children and youth are invited to remain throughout the entire service. Many people across the ages participate in the service which makes the experience infinitely richer for all.

During all Sunday services nursery care is offered for the very youngest and special accommodations can be made for anyone who requires it. Two loving caring adults staff the nursery. Free play and stories are provided as appropriate.

Children and youth are also welcome to remain in the sanctuary with their parents, if that is their desire.

Our religious education program is collaborative with professional leadership supporting volunteer teachers from the congregation’s membership. We encourage all members to share their gifts by becoming a part of a teaching team. Commitment can be as little as two Sundays or an entire teaching term of ten weeks.

There is no fee to participate in our Sunday morning programs for pledging friends and members. To explore the possibility of connecting with our children and youth, please contact the Director of Religious Education by email ( or call the church office at 781-631-1215.

For our youth, in addition to Sunday morning programming, we offer a Senior Youth Group for grades 9-12, and a Junior Youth Group for grades 6-8. Each group meets monthly (usually on a Sunday afternoon for Junior, Sunday evening for Senior) for food, fun, and socializing.

From time to time the two groups meet jointly. The two groups are encouraged to  participate in service activities with volunteer adults for such activities  as cooking at Lifebridge, where three meals are served every day to shelter residents.
