Photographs of Marblehead by June A. Rhodes will be the featured exhibit throughout October at the Stetson Gallery in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead. An opening reception for the exhibit will be held on Sunday, October 5, from 12-2 p.m. at the Gallery, located at 28 Mugford St., Marblehead.
June A. Rhodes has taken many photos over the years, the majority of them in Marblehead, where she lives. Primarily self taught, she has studied at the New England School of Photography and has learned much from colleagues in a local camera club. Having started with a 110 camera and progressed as technology changed, she has found her artistic comfort zone in medium format.
June’s photos have appeared in many local publications. When the schooner Lynx was in Marblehead in 2011 three of her photos of the visit were used in the book “America’s Privateer” Lynx and the War of 1812. The book was published January 20, 2012 by the Lynx Educational Foundation.
Rhodes says, “I enjoy photography, like a painter enjoys painting. My interests are creating scenic and nature studies with things seen every day. I believe my love of Marblehead comes through in my photos in this show, which is a diverse look at Marblehead, from sailboats to fishing shacks, and so much more.”
Stetson Gallery showcases artist members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead and the wider artistic community. The Gallery is open weekdays 9 a.m.-2 p.m. (1 p.m. Mondays) and during Church events at other times. The 2014/2015 Gallery season will continue with the following artists: November, photographs by Sarah Rydgren; March, paintings by Jane McKenna; April, art by the mother and daughter duo Elaine Caliri Daly and Dianna Daly; May, photographs by Linda Silva Palleschi; June, floral photographs by Rev. Wendy von Zirpolo. Curators Anthony and Jo Ann Silva have openings for exhibits in January and February, 2015, and welcome inquiries from artists at email@example.com.
